I taught this mama here a few years back. She is one of the few students I ever had who was unapologetically her own person. She wasn't "different" in the same way as all the kids who were trying to be different. She wore her tee shirts tucked into her belted jeans and the thickest braid I may have ever seen. She was fearlessly country, and not just in the sundress and cowboy boots way of so many when on their way to a summer concert.
She had strong opinions and loved when other students held her to them. She loved a good debate. She was always respectful, but was also willing to express unpopular sentiments.
Yesterday I got to take pictures of her and her one year old daughter. She's a young mom who is doing it right.
