fight like a mother

Some of us fight motherhood and end up there not quite ready. Others fight for it, wanting it with every beat of our hearts.

Either way, once it takes over, we are humbled by the task, overwhelmed by the enormity of our love, frightened by the gravity of the responsibility. Like it or not, it defines us.

Last week Rachel got to celebrate the imminent arrival of a baby she longed for. A baby she fought for. Last week she celebrated with her husband and her family and her friends, all of whom have longed and fought right alongside her.

Later this summer Rachel will welcome her son earthside and all her love and joy and grit and determination will have a new focus. And that little boy will be so lucky to get to call her mom.
